Psychological First Aid

Psychological First Aid

Benefits of disaster mental health components, including Psychological First Aid integration and disaster mental health triage, have been shown to reduce emotional strain and promote recovery. Psychological First Aid training equips healthcare team members with essential skills to support patients and colleagues during crises.

Children and families can show up to their pediatrician’s office at any time following a personal or widespread disaster.  The occurrences of catastrophic events, including man-made (i.e., school shootings, terrorism) and natural (i.e., hurricanes, wildfires, flooding) disasters, are becoming more common. Schools are more commonly adding active shooter drills to their emergency preparedness plans. Although active shooter drills have shown some improved level of confidence in the case of an attack, students are also showing heightened levels of anxiety and feelings of being unsafe. Benefits of disaster mental health components, including Psychological First Aid integration and disaster mental health triage, have been shown to minimize the impact of emotional strain and promote recovery. Psychological First Aid training equips healthcare team members with essential skills to support patients and colleagues during crises.
